Detroit declared “most dangerous” city

I was disappointed to read this story saying that a much-debated and highly controversial study has ranked Detroit the most dangerous city, bumping St. Louis. It is important to note, however, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. The rankings don’t take into account the differences among cities, such as the variables that mold crime in the various cities. It simply takes the numbers and compares them to other cities.

And what’s worse, it’s not even a complete study — major cities like Chicago and Minneapolis, as well as other Illinois and Minnesota cities, were excluded because of “incomplete data”.

No place is completely safe, but it’s unfortunate that this study is going to show as another blemish on an already tarnished reputation. What do you think — has Detroit gotten more dangerous? I find it hard to believe with all the money that is being poured into the city and new companies moving their facilities to the city, that it is as dangerous as some might want to believe.

And for what it’s worth, St. Louis’ crime score was only one point lower than Detroit, hence Detroit received the ranking.
