The 28th edition of the Detroit International Jazz Festival kicks of Friday in Hart Plaza.

The free Labor Day weekend event will present some of Detroit’s most renowned jazz, blues, Latin, Motown and funk musicians, and close to 30 local acts, all playing in downtown Detroit.

Based on its success last year, the festival will again present a gospel Monday – this year featuring Mavis Staples and Kim Burrell with Sean Jones, in addition to local gospel groups.
