Tomato talk

I’m reading Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and had one of those head-slapping “duh!” moments during the process. As I have mentioned, we have a lot of tomatoes. Kingsolver mentions in the book how her family would preserve tomatoes in all these wonderful ways, like canning and making soups and chopping tomatoes. But they also would freeze them whole. The frozen tomatoes, thrown into a freezer bag, would pleasantly knock together in the bag, sounding like croquet balls. The thought alone of my tomatoes knocking together like croquet balls is more pleasing to me than I can express, but it also made me realize, I can freeze my tomatoes whole. Why didn’t I think of that??
